York Schoolboys Under-11s made a satisfactory start to their season with a hard-fought 1-1 away to Hull.

In their first competitive game since earning selection at recent trials, York started brightly.

The front pairing of Harry McInerney and Daniel Davison worked hard to find goalscoring opportunities, while Charlie Marshall and Max Tweddle looked to control play in the midfield for York.

’Keeper Adam Gault dealt with any potential Hull raids and it was York who went ahead after 20 minutes when a quick throw was crossed by Josh Rogerson and Davison netted from close range.

The away side had chances to extend their lead but were thwarted by the Hull ’keeper.

Hull levelled after York conceded possession deep in their own half. The ball was delivered into the penalty area and a striker fired home over Gault.

York’s man of the match was Tweddle.

Coach Ian Hutchinson said: “Considering it was our first game we have to be satisfied with a draw against a side who will be challenging for honours.”

The U11s play their first competitive game early in September.
