A GROUP of 40 youngsters from two North Yorkshire primary schools were given a chance to hone their skills at a golf festival at Easingwold Golf Club.
The pupils from Sutton-on-Forest and Forest of Galtres schools were given a chance take part in golfing games and challenges in a day led by Young Leaders from Easingwold School.
The event was the culmination of a two-week programme called Tri-Golf, a scheme supported by the Golf Foundation aimed at getting more primary school children involved in the game. The children were given a few pointers by club professional John Hughes as they took part in a series of exercises designed to improve their putting, chipping and driving.
The scheme is due to run over the next two years and will be visiting a selection of other primary schools. Other festivals will also be organised for young children to try out the new golf skills that they have learned.
Gay Enos, Easingwold Golf Club’s schools co-ordinator, said: “The children really enjoyed the day, and the parents appreciated the opportunity to see their children trying something new.”
