After 20 years of promises it seems that Haxby Station is to be ditched again (Scheme for new station at Haxby is suspended, June 26).
It seems as if making a station at Haxby is just too much effort. Leeds is getting a brand new station at Kirkstall Forge and other new projects are happening elswhere – especially with Transport for London and on Scotrail.
Haxby is a quiet, modest place, it is not ethnically diverse, nor is it multicultural. We do not have inner-city deprivation and there has never been a riot. The Great and Good are not interested in places like this. I guess we are too dull and unimportant to bother about. Oh! But we do pay shed-loads in taxes and see precious little for it.
Surely a wait of 20 years for a little station on a busy railway line is not asking for too much.
