BACK-TO-BACK wins will be the aim for York’s Lord’s Taverners Under-11s cricketers when they take on Heavy Woollen at Bolton Percy tomorrow.

The city youngsters beat North Yorkshire by 45 runs at Malton & Old Malton Cricket Club in the first of their three group games.

After being put in to bat by the visitors, York openers Will Huffer and captain Ted Patmore played with confidence to build a 33-run stand. Both fell in quick succession, bringing Cameron Burdass (46) and Sam Pocklington (34) together.

They put on 85 for the third wicket and York finished their 30 overs on a respectable 142-7.

In reply, North Yorkshire were restricted by some accurate bowling from Jack Charters and Jay Snowden.

They were backed up by Sam Elliot, who grabbed three wickets for three runs from his three overs, while Alex Wilson, Ted Patmore and Sam Pocklington all picked up two wickets.

A sharp stumping from Ben Harris and some excellent fielding kept the opposition to 97-9, giving York a comprehensive 45-run victory.

Tomorrow’s opponents, Heavy Woollen, have been champions for the last three years.
