Why cannot ministers leave our FM alone? Communications Minister Ed Vaizey said the timetable for the switch to Digital Audio Broadcasting, remained an “aspiration” but the date was not “set in stone”.
The bottom line, however, is this scrapping of our analogue radio waves is still going ahead.
In this time of austerity, this unseemly waste of resource of scrapped analogue radios for the power hungry digital and extra cost (don’t forget the 20 per cent VAT) displays an insensitive attitude by ministers.
It doesn’t make sense to hoist Digital Audio Broadcasting on an unsuspecting public, who is unaware of the total cost of replacement; energy consumption and poor reception in some areas.
So I hope this stone will eventually be buried where it belongs. FM should remain supreme.
