PATIENTS in East Yorkshire could have access to a proposed £18 million community hospital within 18 months.

NHS East Riding of Yorkshire said it hopes building work will begin on the hospital in October, with the first patients being admitted in January 2012.

The hospital is planned for Beverly, but will cover patients across the region including Market Weighton. A full business case will now be put forward at a public meeting to be held in Willerby this month.

Alex Whittaker, director of joint commissioning, NHS East Riding of Yorkshire, said: “The new community hospital will be a very important and beneficial development for the people of the East Riding. The full business case outlines – in detail – the final design, clinical services, proposed building programme and capital and revenue costs for the new hospital. Subject to reserved matters planning approval, we hope to start work on site from October this year.”

The hospital will include a 30-bed inpatient facility, diagnostic services including x-ray and ultrasound and minor injuries and out of hours facilities.

The board meeting takes place at 12.30pm in Health House, Grange Park Lane, Willerby, on July 22.
