How tragically prescient the letter, “End the misery of Afghanistan”, from Maurice Vassie was in “The Press” to-day as it coincided with the news of three more fine young men being killed in Afghanistan.

Horrifically, these young soldiers were murdered by an Afghan they were “training”.

Probably, like many more people, I’ve never known exactly how many Afghan soldiers, and police, have been “trained”, to run their own country by our soldiers.

However, while hearing the dreadful news about these deaths I learned the British and, presumably, American military, have trained no less than 160,000 Afghans to be soldiers and policemen.

This is an incredible number of men which must include, by now, both officers and NCOs. This being so, why aren’t they taking over the training role and letting our men free to do other things, such as preparing to come home.

Our miserable politicians are too craven to do the only thing, just about everyone in this country wants, and that is to bring our soldiers home before there are any more losses.

It’s understandable that people, (especially those who have lost someone) will say, “If we pull out now then all those soldiers who have been killed will have died in vain”, but surely it’s better we pull out now before any more lives are lost?
