Holgate WMC seized on home green advantage to push division one champions RI Amateurs to a close finish in the York Amateur Bowling Association Williamson Cup.

After 15 ends they led by eight shots before the RI revival was led by Eric Haughton’s rink, who scored seven shots on the last four ends.

Selby are still on course for a cup and league double after an 8-0 win over Nestlé Rowntree in the league and a toppling of Poppleton in the cup.

In division two, consecutive 7-1 wins for Stamford Bridge over West Park and Minster have lifted the bid to avoid the drop.
