This week I’ve decided to come over all young and trendy. Well, not me, you understand (it’s a long time since we’ve been either of those, if ever).

No, young and trendy refers to the properties we’ve picked out for your viewing pleasure. They are all bright, modern, stylish and with plenty of street cred. They are all detached family homes and all under the £300,000 mark.

We’ll begin with a super detached home in Stratford Way, Huntington, that boasts lots of bright living areas and light and airy rooms. There’s a lot of it, too, with a good-sized lounge and dining room and a breakfast room and a conservatory and… well, plenty of space all round. Nicely fitted kitchen, as well as a nice modern bathroom. The master bedroom of four also has its own en-suite. As if that wasn’t enough to get you interested, there is also an added bonus here in that there are super open views from the superb rear garden.

A really smart family home, which is on the books of Stephensons at a guide price of £299,950.

For the same price you could also consider another very smart detached family home, this one in Surrey Way, off Shipton Road. There’s a lot to admire here, but our eye was greatly taken by a delightful 26ft-long through living/dining room. This is a very bright area with a modern feel and superb oak flooring. Other highlights of this house are the recently refitted bathroom and kitchen (the latter is a very generous 17ft and has a lovely range of cream-fronted floor and wall units). The house also has a bright conservatory and a family-friendly garden. Of the four bedrooms, the master has an en-suite. Really nice package, for which Naish are asking, as we said, £299,950.

Meanwhile, not to be outdone, William H Brown were keen to show us another modern millie, in the shape of a bright and breezy Antler Homes house in Lady Kell Gardens at Haxby. We liked the bright and cheerful front aspect to this one, with lots of slopes and angles (like a great big smile).

It’s just two years old and offers a sitting room with an attractive feature fireplace and patio doors opening out onto the garden, a dining room and an impressively fitted kitchen with a good range of integrated units including electric double oven with gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher and with a utility room off.

On the first floor there is a nicely irregular-shaped master bedroom which has fitted wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. There are three further bedrooms and a smart house bathroom with a shower cubicle as well as bath.

The front garden has a driveway leading to an integral garage and the back garden has patio and lawned areas. Happy house, we think, priced at £284,950.

Finishing up our quartet of homes for this week is another detached family home, this one tucked away nicely in Woodlands Chase at Clifton Moor on a private and larger than average plot. Here we have a lounge with modern Beech fire surround which opens to a dining room. There’s a decent-sized kitchen and utility room and downstairs cloaks.

Upstairs there is a master bedroom with en-suite shower room, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. The front drive provides off street parking and there is an integral brick garage. The garden is something of a gem, as it is private and well tended and there is a nature reserve to one side. Churchills are asking for £244,950 for what, again, is a very decent family home.

OOPS… Last week we waxed lyrical about Daveen, a delightful, light and spacious fivebedroomed detached house in Naburn. This, we concluded, was a super, stylish home.

What we neglected to mention, however, was the correct price. The vendors have just reduced it to £399,950 – making it even more of a good buy!
