The very pleasant people at Red Move lettings were in touch this week blowing the trumpet for “something a bit special” in the shape of a super period home in Union Terrace, York.

“This is a really nice home in a great position,” they told us. Well, we took a look and so it is… nice home in a nice spot.

It’s a large Victorian mid terrace, offered unfurnished, within walking distance of the city centre, the hospital and Nestlé. The house settles itself elegantly over four floors in slow and easy style. It all begins at basement level, where there is a smart fitted kitchen and dining room with French doors out to the garden. On the first floor there is a lounge with feature fireplace and a family room. The first floor has two bedrooms and a house bathroom while on the top floor there are two further bedrooms, one of which has a WC and shower cubicle. Big and beautiful, is, we believe, the right expression here. Red Move are asking for a rental of £1,100pcm.

Continuing in something of a ‘pick and mix’ theme of smart homes for this week, we next came across another period home, this one offered by Arena Letting. It is in Westwood Terrace, South Bank, a popular spot just a short walk from the city centre.

This house has a large living room and kitchen, four double bedrooms and a house bathroom. It’s offered at £800pcm.

“Suitable for sharers or students,” say the letting agents.

Arena, meanwhile, have another offering, this time a village property in Elvington, a detached family home set well back off the main road. Here there is a through lounge with French doors opening out onto a decked area overlooking the lawned garden, a separate dining with an archway leading through to a well-fitted kitchen, utility lobby and cloakroom. There is a ground floor bedroom/study with an en-suite shower room.

To the first floor are three bedrooms and a house bathroom. And, here’s a smart touch for you, the house also has electric gates to the front driveway. The rental is £1,250pcm.

Staying in the countryside, Reeds Rains have a nice-looking rural retreat in the shape of The Fold, at East Cottingwith. This is a smart granary conversion which has two reception rooms, three bedrooms with en-suite facilities (luxury!) and a fourth bedroom/study and house bathroom. The rental is £995pcm.

Heading back to town, we see that Martin and Co have an executive two-bed apartment “furnished to the highest standards” and with panoramic views across the city. It’s in Popeshead Court and the highlights here (apart from those great views) are a large open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area which has a vaulted ceiling overhead and laminate flooring underfoot. There is also a covered conservatory area. The rental is £950pcm.

And, staying with town centre apartments, Letters Ltd suggest a look at a tidy one-bed unfurnished apartment within strolling distance of the city centre at Holgate Road.

The lounge here has exposed wood floorboards (tres fashionable at the moment), a newly fitted breakfast kitchen and a double bedroom and bathroom. The rental is £525pcm.

And last, but decidedly not least, Ashtons have a very smart two bedroomed apartment in Langton Court; a “lovely flat in a prime position” is how the agents describe this one. Offered unfurnished, it boasts a large lounge/dining room, a modern kitchen with appliances including a dishwasher, washing machine fridge freezer, oven and hob, two double bedrooms, with an en-suite shower room to the master, and a house bathroom. There is allocated off-street parking included in the rental of £725pcm.
