A COUPLE who fell in love while learning to dance were celebrating 50 years of happy marriage today.

Peter and Lili Hull, of Acomb, in York, were only 17 when they met in 1957 at the former Court School of Dancing, in High Ousegate.

Three years later they tied the knot at St Philip and St James Church, in Clifton. Today, they have two daughters, Angela and Tina, and five grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Max, Jacob and Adam.

Peter, 70, a former transport manager for Excel Logistics who now works as a part-time health and safety officer for City of York Council, said: “When I first saw Lili at the dance school I thought she had the best pair of legs I’d ever seen – that’s what first attracted me to her. But our secret to a successful marriage is that as well as being lovers, we’re also good friends.”

Peter and Lili, who worked as a dinner lady at Hob Moor Primary School, will be throwing a party for 70 friends and relatives at the Beechwood Close Hotel, in Shipton Road, tomorrow.
