A YOUNGSTER from York won a special birthday treat from the police.

Claire Hayden, the mum of 14-year-old Elliott Hayden, of Badger Hill, won the prize at this year’s Community Idol event in a charity raffle in aid of SNAPPY, Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York.

As part of the prize Claire and Elliott got to visit Fulford Road Police Station on Tuesday, the same day as Elliott’s 14th birthday.

Sergeant Iain Sirrell said: “Seeing the great big smile on Elliott’s face made all of the planning completely worthwhile. His enjoyment was infectious and everyone involved had a fantastic time.” During the three-hour visit, Elliott had a birthday tea, with a cake brought in by his mum, Claire, in one of the mobile police stations.

Elliott also had a VIP tour of the Force Control Room, met two of the force’s police dogs and was given a ride in a patrol car.

Claire said: “This was a great treat, as Elliott attends SNAPPY and loves all things police.”
