AGE Concern York is sponsoring a diversity day which will take place at the start of the city’s next 50+ Festival.

The charity is underwriting the York Older People’s Assembly event, which will be staged between 11am and 4pm on September 25 at the Quaker Meeting House.

Festival co-ordinator Sue Lister says the theme for the day will be Bridging The Gap - Income and Inclusion, and it will involve workshops, speakers, drop in sessions, information stands, and advice.

“Last year’s success was reflected in the sound of Indian dancing and tasty curries, creative writing, mobile phone photos, poetry and laughter,” Sue said.

She said she wanted to invite individuals, groups and organisations to contribute their own event, looking at bridging the gap between income levels and those who might think of themselves as in or out of the “mainstream”.

“We can use this day to promote community cohesion which is at the heart of a thriving society.”

Anyone wanting to contribute an event should phone Sue on 01904 488870 by Tuesday.
