A DAUGHTER paid tribute to her late father when she presented a bench in his memory to Tockwith Show.

Colin Farrer was one of the founders of the Tockwith and District show in 1945, set up to raise funds for troops after the Second World War.

He was an active committee member and supporter of the show throughout his life, before he sadly died, only days before last year’s show. Colin’s daughter, Angie Walker presented the bench to the show chairman, Sam Blacker.

Sam said: “Colin just lived for that show. It’s a fantastic tribute. If all our committee members were as committed as Colin, we would be as big as the Great Yorkshire show.”

Angie wanted the bench to be placed in the centre of the grounds, in memory of her father’s great love for the countryside, which always showed in his devotion to the show. He never missed a meeting from 1954 to 2008.

Tockwith show has become an important part of the village’s life, having raised funds for its own show field, as well as contributing regular donations to local and national charities.

This year’s show, the 65th to date, will be held on Saturday, August 7, from 9am to 5pm.
