THE Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will travel by barge from Bishopthorpe Palace to the Millennium Bridge tomorrow to speak at an open-air praise event.

The event, at 3pm, is a celebration arranged by Churches Together in South West York (representing five local congregations), to mark the tenth anniversary of the start of Praise By The Bridge events. These are held beside the Millennium Bridge on the third Sunday afternoon of the month during the period from April to September.

Tomorrow’s Praise By The Bridge Special will last about an hour and will take place on the grassed area between Terry Avenue and the Ouse, with access from Butcher Terrace.

Music will be provided by the York Railway Institute Brass Band, the Pantastic Pan Band (from Westfield Primary School, Acomb) and a gospel group. Dr Sentamu will be accompanied by representatives of local uniformed groups as travels along the Ouse. He will arrive on the Fulford side of the river, at 2.30pm, to be met by the Sheriff of York, several clergy, and the St Chad’s Greys Scout band, before processing across the Millennium Bridge.
