THE Millers’ tale continues to be embedded in the folklore of Fulford Golf Club.

Jamie Miller won the Heslington-based club’s 36-hole stroke-play championship for the sixth time since he first lifted the prize in 1990.

And when considering how his elder brother Kevin won the same crown ten times between 1978 and 1995, it’s been a phenomenal family silverware streak.

In the latest success, Miller posted rounds of 73 and 69 to finish three strokes clear of nearest challenger, York Union of Golf Clubs’ mainstay Ross Earnshaw.

Meanwhile, Fulford GC’s Malcolm Sunderland, playing off 12, won the regional Audi Quattro tournament at The Oaks GC with 39 stableford points. However, his drive stalled in the regional final at Slaley Hall in Hexham, where his 32 total was five adrift of the winner.

Fulford 18-handicapper Angela Johnson holed in one with a five wood at the 139-yard par-three fifth at Ripon GC, where the hosts beat Fulford 5-2 in an ‘A’-team match. It was Johnson’s second ace.

FOREST of Galtres GC duo John Richardson and Simon Pratt, who both play off 12, scored 47 stableford points to head 30 other pairs at the club qualifier in the International Pairs UK competition.

They now play at Oulton Hall in September for a place at the De Vere Wychwood Park UK final in Cheshire later that month.

FOREST Park GC revelled in hosting the Yorkshire Ladies Challenge Bowl.

The stroke-play competition saw a clean sweep by the home club with Susan Coultas first with a net 69, Barbara Murray second on 71, Kathryn Smith third on 72 and Lisa Dalby fourth on 73.

THE Oaks GC head professional Graham Walker scored a gross 67 in The Oaks GC Invitation Day event, including a first-ever eagle on the dog-leg 14th hole, and not as incorrectly reported in The Press on July 3.
