Reading the article about the collapse of part of a building (Phoenix frights, The Press, July 15) made me think how many times I have gone right past that spot to attend hospital and to see a friend who lives in Clarence Street.

Have not all of us who have passed that very spot been lucky not to be injured or killed?

However, it just shows that the standards on many buildings should be subject to tighter building control.

The old saying “in the wrong place at the wrong time” is the message here. I reckon one should be thankful for it collapsing at such a time without loss of life or injury.

Heavy traffic and vibration in that area does not help.
