ON Sunday evening we put out our green waste bin and the green box with three bags in it, as we have done religiously ever since the recycling started.

On Monday morning one box hadn’t been emptied. The reason was hand-written on an official leaflet. We had not separated it into different boxes. “What boxes?” we said, totally puzzled.

Four hours later the post arrived from City of York Council, telling us in great detail about the extra boxes we will receive next week.

So thank you Sally Burns, but can you explain why our boxes with bags were refused this week, when others had had boxes with their bags emptied?

We had to take it all the way to James Street depot, where I had a word with the staff in the office. They agreed with me it was crazy.

Write to The Press they said, so I have.

Mrs M Ware, Lesley Avenue, Fulford, York.

Sally Burns, director of Communities and Neighbourhoods at City of York Council, said: “We can only apologise to Mrs Ware if her recycling was not collected, and reiterate that we are taking all recycling that is presented in old boxes or bags until residents become familiar with the new service.

“We are also continuing to write to all households one week before boxes are due to be delivered, so residents are aware of them coming.

“Residents who feel their collection may have been missed are being asked to phone 01904 551551 and arrangements will be made to collect them as soon as possible.”
