I wonder if the residents of York and surrounding area realise just how fortunate we are to have the services of York Hospital.

Having lived in such diverse areas as London and Wales, it never ceases to amaze me just how fortunate we are in our NHS services.

Back in 2000 I had cause to put in a complaint about the standards of cleanliness at the hospital. As is my habit, I did not want anyone else to experience what I had experienced so complained to the relevant authorities.

At the time I had a justifiable complaint and I was truly amazed at the serious way in which my complaint was handled. The improvements were instantaneous and indeed still are.

Since the year 2000, I have had several further occasions when I have been required to attend the hospital and without fail the attention I have received and the standards of efficiency have been second to none.

My most recent experience involved Mr Crook’s cardiology deptartment.

After a wait of less than three weeks I was given an appointment which involved a two- hour stay at the hospital. During this period, I underwent four separate procedures, after which I saw the consultant, who in words of one syllable informed me of exactly what was wrong with me and what my future treatment would involve.

I could bore everyone with statistics of waiting times in Wales and London and illustrate further just how fortunate we are, but suffice to say I am extremely grateful that I now live in York.

I only hope and pray that recent cuts in the NHS do not adversely affect York’s superb record in giving us an NHS service second to none.
