HISTORY lovers will be able to take a walk back in time this month.

To mark the Festival of British Archaeology, which runs until August 1, York Archaeological Trust and CompleteYorkshire are offering two guided walks around two lost Viking Age landscapes.

The first of these will take place tomorrow, at 7pm, leaving from the Bay Horse pub car park, in Fulford.

It will consist of a guided walk around the controversial 1066 battlefield of Fulford. Next Monday, and leaving from the Swordsman pub car park, in Stamford Bridge at 7.15pm, there will be a walk around the supposed sites of the Battle of Stamford Bridge, which also took place in 1066. Both these walks will endeavour to explain the historical, political and military situations of the time.

Walkers are advised to wear sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing. To book a place on one or both of these walks, phone 01904 615505 or for any other information regarding these or any other battlefield walks 01904 663014.
