Dunnington lead the way in division one of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League after completing the double over reigning champions York 1.

York’s Louise Lister and Joy Barker were the only couple with three wins, but Dunnington’s all-round team display earned a 57-51 win and put them on course to end York’s 13-year hold on the title.

Poppleton are third after a 60-48 victory over Fulford. Liz Burdett and Roz Wilson won 23 games for Popp, while Fulford’s Jill Rounce and Jill McCreedy won 26 games.

Pocklington beat relegated Heworth and still need more wins to ensure they avoid the same fate.

Bishopthorpe lead division two by four points after a 66-42 win over Wheldrake, with Helen Leach and Sue Yoward winning 25 games.

Second-placed Knaresborough beat Castlegarth 59-49, while Fulford downed Copmanthorpe as Pam Campbell and Elizabeth Mallory won 26 games.

Appleton Roebuck have a two-point lead at the top of division three after a 63-45 win over Wistow. Emma Almgill and Judy Marriott had three 8-4 successes.

Wigginton beat Rowntree Park 75-33, but then lost to Starbeck.

Dunnington’s unbeaten run came to an end with a 60-48 loss to division four leaders David Lloyd.

Riccall moved into third with a 63-45 win over Cliffe and a 57-51 triumph against Pocklington.

Unbeaten Knaresborough opened up a six-point gap at the top of division five with wins over Poppleton and Fulford.

Division six leaders Bishopthorpe suffered their first defeat, 61-47 against Rufforth.
