Who better to invite to a maths inspiration event than Mr Maths himself, Johnny Ball?
The broadcaster was invited to Tadcaster Grammar School recently to take part in a maths gifted and talented day.
Year Nine and Ten students were entertained with amusing anecdotes, and listened intently as Johnny covered every maths topic from pyramids to parabolic curves.
Johnny, who has done much to make mathematics popular, was a regular fixture on children’s television in the 1970s and 1980s, and is the father of BBC Radio 2 DJ Zoe Ball.
“It was a great honour to welcome Johnny Ball to Tadcaster Grammar School,” said its head of maths, Rob Power. “His talk was both interactive and fascinating and covered the relevance and importance of old maths in today’s society.
“I am sure students benefited from his expertise, which gave a useful insight into personal life choices. Some students even spent extra time after the session researching some of their newly acquired knowledge.”
