EXTRA police officers will be on patrol ahead of York City’s pre-season friendly with Barnsley at Bootham Crescent tonight.
More officers have been drafted in as a precaution following the ugly scenes in York city centre that marred the club’s match against Hull City FC on Saturday. Four people were arrested as a result of the trouble, which saw about 50 football hooligans barricade themselves inside Lendal Cellars pub and throw glasses and bottles at shoppers.
Chief Inspector Dave Hannan, of York police, said: “We are not expecting any problems at tonight's match. However, we do have a number of extra patrols on duty and a dedicated command to deal with any incidents of disorder.”
