YORK faces its floral D-Day tomorrow when Yorkshire in Bloom judges cast their eye over the city’s efforts.

The team will tour the city for the final time before deciding whether its flora, fauna and street environment meets their gold standard and visit an array of sites including Carr Junior School, Low Moor Community Kids’ Allotment, the Earswick Scented Garden project and Rowntree Park.

They will also run the rule over Haxby, Wigginton, Melrosegate and Fulford, and York in Bloom co-ordinator Liz Levett said: “The city is looking fantastic and everybody has been working hard to get it in tip-top condition for the day.

“The floral tubs, hanging baskets and barrier baskets are at their best this year, but the competition is not just about flowers. It’s about encouraging residents to take pride in their local area and I know from travelling around York that residents and local businesses really do care about their city.”
