ONE of the candidates to become the new leader of the Labour Party will be speaking in York tomorrow.

Former Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Gordon Brown as the head of the party following Labour’s General Election defeat, will speak at the Priory Street Centre between 3.30pm and 5pm.

Mr Miliband has returned to York at the invitation of York Central MP Hugh Bayley, a long-time friend who he also supported during the election campaign when he spoke at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall.

Mr Bayley is backing Mr Miliband in the Labour leadership battle, in which he faces opposition from his brother, Ed Miliband, Ed Balls, Andy Burnham and Diane Abbott.
