YORK-BORN Simon Dyson will return from a brief break next week aiming to have rediscovered his pinball wizardry.

The man rated 75 in the world golf rankings will return to the European Tour in the 3 Irish Open at Killarney Golf Club in eight days, conscious that only one element – albeit vital – is missing from re-igniting his season.

Putting the ball in the cup is all that is stalling Dyson from a surge back to the world’s top 50 and also the dream of returning to the first nine ratings for automatic selection for this year’s Ryder Cup battle between Europe and America at Celtic Manor in Wales in less than three months.

The Malton & Norton GC star, who tied for 48th place in The Open at St Andrews with rounds of 69, 76, 73 and 72, has been told by his coach Pete Cowen that it’s just the greens business hampering his advance.

From tee to green the 32-year-old has been in exceptional form. Now he needs the putts to drop.

Dyson’s appearance in Ireland next week heralds the start of seven full weeks of the highest calibre competition.

On his schedule are the World Golf Championship Bridgestone International at the Firestone Country Club in Ohio; the USPGA Championship at Wisconsin’s renowned Whistling Straits course, which is the venue for the last Major of the season; his debut in the Czech Open; the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles and then the Omega European Masters in Switzerland – all before the Ryder Cup.
