Strensall Youth Project has been awarded £25,000 from City of York Council.
The money will mean facilities for young people can be updated in the village.
Ward councillor Siân Wiseman, pictured, said she was “delighted”.
She said: “We have been working towards providing new youth facilities for Strensall since 2005 when the council disposed of its interest in the former youth club premises at the Old School which was no longer fit for purpose. That property was sold in February 2008. “This money will now be going towards upgrading the facilities at Durlston Drive playing field, to renovate the changing rooms, small community rooms, tennis courts and a multi-use games area, so that the premises can be used by many groups for community and youth services.
“We already have a thriving football club, an active tennis group and now hope to bring more facilities to this area for the youth of the village.”
