Plans are well advanced for the opening of a new St Leonard’s Hospice shop in Selby – and the charity is encouraging local people to offer goods for sale and to volunteer to help.

The new shop in Park Street, Selby, will open in the next few weeks. It will sell donated goods and all the funds it raises will go directly to the work of the York hospice in caring for local people with life-threatening illnesses. A manager has been appointed for the new shop, but its success will depend very much on the help of the people of Selby. Volunteers are needed to work in the shop or behind the scenes – they will be given full training.

There’s also a need for clothing and household goods that can be sold in the Selby shop.

Helen Moreton, retail manager for St Leonard’s, said, ‘Our new Selby shop is an exciting venture for us – our seventh shop and the first to the south of York.

“St Leonard’s serves the Selby area, and we take many patients from here. We have always had great support for our fundraising efforts from the generous people of Selby, so it makes sense for us to have a shop in the town centre. “We know that we will be made welcome, and that the Selby St Leonard’s Hospice shop will soon become a valued part of the Selby scene.”
