SIX Dunnington Bowling Club members have won through to next month’s National Championships at Leamington Spa.

Margaret Morgan, Sue Taylor, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone will take part in the fours event, which gets under way on August 1, the first day of the two-week championship.

Kath Pepper and Barbara Dawson play the pairs on August 10, while Brooke and Instone compete in the over-55s pairs for the second year running.

Brooke will also skip one of the double rinks on August 15 after the team beat Durham, Lincolnshire and Cumbria to qualify.

• GIANT-KILLING Huntington beat Holgate 60-54 to lift the York CIU Bowls Evening League Knockout Cup.

Dave Immeson and wife Audrey, at third wood, set the pace for Huntington by scoring four shots on the first end on the way to a 17-shot triumph.

Bob Howland scored with his last wood to give Huntington another two shots against Ged Mackie’s Holgate rink.

Steve Lea was keeping Holgate’s hopes alive as he led 21-7, but Huntington skip Colin Ellis steered his side to a 22-9 defeat which secured a six-point victory overall.

CIU Games Council chairman Alan Preston presented the cup to winning captain Dennis Watson.

• ENTRIES are now being taken for York’s Super 7 bowls competition.

Teams include two pairs, who play 16 ends, and one triple, playing 15 ends, competing in group matches, leading to knockout stages and a grand final.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday, August 4.
