WITH the holiday season upon us, many readers will be planning to go out and about to enjoy the delights of North Yorkshire. I hope some of them will consider leaving the car at home and using the excellent Dalesbus and Moorsbus services, which can take you from York into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.

Dalesbus services run from York on Sundays until October 24. Service 812 goes to Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge and Grassington; service 800 runs via Leeds to Ilkley and Bolton Abbey then through Wharfedale and on to Hawes.

Moorsbus services run every day during the school holidays, less frequently at other times. The M15 goes from York to Helmsley, where it links with a network of Moorsbus services which run to some of the most scenic parts of the North York Moors.

Timetables should be available from information centres, or online at dalesbus.org and moors.uk.net/moorsbus, or phone 01132 2457676 (Dalesbus), 01845 597000 (Moorsbus).

Using these services is kind on the environment and, for keen walkers, lets you walk from one place to another, rather than always having to get back to your car.
