Using pellet, he alternated between the far bank and the near margin to take carp to 3lb on his way to a 59lb 12oz total.

Mick Sykes at peg five on the same lake stuck to his far-bank tactic to find fish of the same stamp ending the day with 45lb 15oz in the net.

Heavy rain in the Pennines put colour in the Ouse for the Leeds Summer League on Saturday and fish proved harder to tempt than expected, but Dean Grace had few complaints after posting a 9lb 6oz to win from peg 147 on the Aldwark stretch.

Using caster and crumb in the feeder and worm on the hook, he bagged a bream of 6lb and added a few skimmers, eels and perch.

Trevor Hewitt had a much quieter day on 314 at Dunsforth where tip-fished lobworm brought a tug from a mid-match barbel of 7lb 3oz, but it was enough to bring second place.

The most recent Shepherds AC contest saw the Marley Pool at Laybourne pressed into service.

Pete Webster led the way with an all-carp net of 52lb 12oz taken on pellet fished tight to the far bank. Runner-up Jim Lamb finished a fish short with 51lb 14oz taken on paste fished close to the margins.

The latest Open match at Viking Fishery, Pollington, was held on Fox pond, and saw Selby anglers take the first two places.

Mick Roche drew corner peg eight and winkled out 32lb 8oz of carp. In second place was regular top performer Rob Green on peg ten with 19lb 8oz of small carp. In third place with 18lb 6oz was Geoff Vause of Knottingley.

Leeds Juniors were on Hawk pond on Saturday. A Dowd won this match for teenage anglers with 45lb.

Second with 28lb 6oz was E Freer, with A Donald taking third place with 22lb.

Cross Keys AC fished Deer pond on Saturday. The winner with 31lb 7oz was Tim Wilson, with Julie Ward taking second place with 23lb 10oz. Jason Walker came third with 23lb 2oz.

The first three in the Spring Close Old Boys AC match held on Deer pond on Sunday all used paste, with top rod T Grover taking 66lb 14oz.

C Hughes was second with 64lb 6oz, M Welsh was third with 58lb 8oz, T McGurk was fourth with 52lb 12oz, and L Thompson was fifth with 48lb.

The Magnet (Ferrybridge) anglers had to work hard to make the small fish in Hawk pond feed on Sunday.

C Wilson came out on top with 38lb 4oz, A Phillips coming second with 32lb 6oz, pushing venue regular G Vause into third place with 32lb 2oz.

All ponds at Carpvale were in use on Sunday for the West Yorkshire Freemasons event which raised a significant sum for local charities.

Pete Riley led from peg 57 on the Front Pond where a two-pronged attack with floating bread on the waggler and pellet and method feeder brought him carp to 7lb in an impressive 107lb 5oz bag.

Best of the rest was Ian Walkin with 71lb 10oz from peg 69 on the same lake.
