WHAT a sparkling turn from the veteran New Orleans piano-player, who trips the night again with this funky, swampy and occasionally angry outing.

It’s a long album, running to 16 tracks, suggesting the good doctor has perhaps been at his own medicine cabinet, but no complaints because there isn’t a dud number here. Dr John is backed by a tremendous band, with a guest alto sax slot for Donald Harrison on Music Came. The dust starts to dance from the opening bars of Feel Good Music, while great fun is to be had, too, with Them – a universal hymn to blame.

Dismay at an unfair life for some combines with dance-worthy tunes on political songs such as the robustly ironic Only In Amerika and Big Gap, which contains the noteworthy chorus: “How did the rich get what dey got?”
