MORE than 100 young ballet dancers visited York St John University for the Yorkshire Ballet’s annual summer school.

As part of the two-week event, a master class was held by Sir Anthony Dowell, former artistic director of the Royal Ballet.

Marguerite Porter, director of the summer school, said the university was the perfect setting for the event, which runs for two weeks each year.

“Each teacher has something different to offer, all being former dancers with a wealth of experience.

“To have someone like Sir Anthony Dowell especially making the journey is indeed a privilege,” she said.

“And for me personally to revisit the place of my summer school studies is a joy; something I look forward to the entire year.”

The university is now in its sixth year of hosting the summer school under Ms Porter, offering well-equipped dance studio facilities and onsite accommodation for the students to use.
