A GROUP of women from York are preparing to cycle 140 miles across the country to raise money for charity.
Sue Hannon, Jo Walkden and seven friends are set to start the ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth today in support of the Ebor Vale Riding For The Disabled group.
Jo’s daughter, Ellie, rides with the group, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It encourages disabled people of all ages to ride horses to benefit their health and wellbeing.
Sue, of Copmanthorpe, said: “The furthest we’ve cycled so far in training is about 35 miles. None of us are cyclists, but several of us have children with disabilities, some of whom use the riding group.
“We’re hoping to raise at least £200 for the group, which is self-funded and run by volunteers. We’ll all be wearing pink and taking a collection on the way.”
