THE U11s Burn and Company Solicitors Cup final between Dunnington and Heworth fell victim to the weather after 15 overs.

Heworth had previously booked their place in the final with victories over Acomb and Sheriff Hutton Bridge, and were ready to face the newly crowned zone ‘C’ champions in Dunnington.

Unfortunately thunder, lightning and heavy rain meant the final will now have to be re-arranged.

Dunnington disposed of York with a comprehensive victory in the quarter-final.

They posted 288, thanks to Will Jones (16), Tom Loten (14) and Jacob Smith (12) before Alex Wilson (3-0) and Rosie Todd (3-1) restricted York to 206.

Harvey Emmerson made nine for York and returned figures of 3-3.

In the semi-final against Yapham, the trio of Alex Wilson (17), Smith (14) and Loten (10) were again among the runs in Dunnington’s total of 287.

Will Cardy took 2-11 for Yapham, before team-mate Dan Stone scored 11 in his team’s reply of 227.

Rosie Todd was again in fine bowling form (3-3), as was Jones (3-7) and Wilson (2-9).

Elsewhere, in the Burn and Company Solicitors U11 League, Ovington came out on top in a clash of the titans with Acomb in zone ‘A’.

Both teams were unbeaten heading into the title decider but Ovington triumphed by six runs in a closely-contested encounter.

Matty Roberts (12), Olly Finch (14) and Jack Smith (15) shone for Ovington in their total of 290, with Jacob Fleat (3-4) the pick of the Acomb bowlers.

Will Fryer hit 18 and Ben Botterill 16 in Acomb’s response, though Ovington’s bowlers did enough, particularly Charlie Marshall (2-7).

In zone ‘B’, Heworth ‘A’ secured third place with a win over Clifton Alliance.

Fergus McAughtrie made 16 not out, Oliver Hughes 15 and Louis Brown 11 in Heworth’s 265, while a superb double wicket maiden from Joe Kilvington (3-0) and 2-14 for Dan Moll were the highlights for Clifton Alliance.

Clifton’s effort of 243 was led by Jake Atkinson (17), Liam Powell (14) and Kilvington (11 not out) as McAughtrie starred with 2-3.

Zak Moorcroft (2-16) and Ryan Whitley (2-19) also bowled well to steer Heworth to victory and cement a third-place spot.

In zone ‘C’, Adam Harrison played a leading role in Stamford Bridge’s tight win over Yapham.

He made 19 in his team’s total of 248 and followed up with 2-5 as Yapham fell agonisingly short at 245.
