SHERIFF Hutton Bridge narrowly secured the York & District Junior Cricket Association Hirepoint Under- 13 Championship trophy in a tense thriller against Osbaldwick.

A scrambled leg-bye off the last ball earned Bridge victory in the final, played at Bolton Percy.

This came after a nervy final over, when the game swung one way and then the other as Osbaldwick’s Darren Harris strived desperately to defend his team’s total.

Bridge required just four runs off the final six balls, and managed to squeeze home despite losing two wickets in a chaotic final spell.

Osbaldwick had originally posted 110-4, thanks to Freddie Parry’s 30 not out, Jonny Rawsthorne’s 27 and Darren Harris’ 15.

T Coyle claimed 1-2 for Bridge, while U11 youngster Dan Cass took 1-16.

Bridge’s reply was spearheaded by M Day and George Wainwright, who hit 31 not out and 30 not out respectively.

Rawsthorne and Parry followed up their impressive batting performances with the ball, taking 1-6 and 1-25 respectively, while Adam Guildford (1-12) and Harris (1-3) chipped in to ensure Bridge’s run chase would go right down to the wire.

Bridge held their nerve in the end and finished on 111-5 for a memorable trophy triumph.

The trophy was presented by Harry Codling, of the Y & DJCA management committee.
