Dodsworth Area Residents Association (DARA) seeks to represent the views and interests of residents living in the Dodsworth Avenue, Fossway and Pottery Lane areas in Heworth, York I read with surprise and disappointment in The Press that, from August, the First York Number 13 bus will no longer continue to Monks Cross but will terminate at Elmfield Avenue.

If this is the case it will leave a lot of young people, families, disabled and older people, in the area unable to travel to Monks Cross to shop.

We realise the Park&Ride service Number Nine goes there, but only travels around the very edge of the DARA boundary; in many cases this is too far for some people to walk especially on the return journey when they are carrying heavy shopping. Also, many of these buses are full at busier times and therefore do not stop on the outward journey.

There is also a Pullman Number 55 service, but it has only one per hour and again is a long walk, to/from the bus stop, for some people in the area.

At a time when we should be trying to get people to travel by public transport, surely shortening a service like this is a backward move.
