ALTHOUGH there is no chance that I will be able to visit York’s Explore Centre, I read with interest all The Press readers’ letters for and against the costly revamping of York’s public library.

Mr Graeme Robertson’s Quick Eats (The Press, June 19) stated that reading and eating at the same time seemed to be encouraged at the café Explore.

Thankfully, reading while eating was not considered to be good manners in the neighbourhood where I was born and grew up in Tadcaster’s east parish.

So, to have been seen reading and eating at the same time in Tadcaster’s public library, if we had had such an amenity in those far-off days, would have led to social exclusion in my formative years.
