SHE watched two family members fight and lose their battle against brain tumours – now a York fundraiser is set to take part in this year’s York 10k to raise cash for charity.

Tessa Warne is to race alongside thousands of others in the Run For All York 10k, set up in memory of Jane Tomlinson, in aid of Andrea’s Gift – a Yorkshire-based brain tumour charity, providing funds for brain tumour research and patient support.

The 34-year-old, who began working for the charity earlier this year, will be taking part in the race on August 1 alongside close friend Sam Wilson, a neuro oncology specialist nurse who also helps Andrea’s Gift.

Tessa, 34, of East Parade, Heworth, said: “I lost my auntie Margot to a brain tumour 20 years ago and we lost my husband’s mum, Sue Warne, nine years ago so this charity is one that is very close to my heart.

“Also, I am now the fundraising and development manager for North Yorkshire for the charity.

“When the company I used to work for went into administration, I decided to apply for a job within the charity. Because of my history dealing with people who have suffered with brain tumours I was accepted.

“Andrea’s Gift was originally a charity based in West Yorkshire, set up in memory of a woman from Bradford who died from a brain tumour.

“I have been brought into help expand the charity in North Yorkshire and I would like to set up a group in York.”

Tessa and Sam have both been busy training for the 10k run and hope to raise about £300 each for the charity.

“I have been training three times a week and we are both planning to run all the way round,” said Tessa.
