I WAS astounded at the Con/Lib cuts for free swimming for over 60s and under-16s. This after only one year.

This was a great innovation by the Labour Party as the amount of obese adults and children in this country is frightening.

Swimming is a wonderful form of very healthy exercise, and one that should be encouraged by any responsible government.

The free swim for these age groups has been helping people exercise their bodies regularly.

You may say the alternative is to join a gym. The problem is that children have to be accompanied by an adult and there are severe time restrictions for kids.

Also , gym membership is expensive and you can’t get just a swimming membership. I was a member at one and found that I couldn’t use the facilities I was paying for. A lot of the gym equipment is often not very suitable for older people, as I found to my cost using the walking machine. Swimming is a much more suitable and gentle form of exercise.

The older generation, and parents of younger children seem to have taken this obnoxious cut without a fight.
