A TALENTED York teenager has danced her way into a place at a prestigious ballet school over the summer.

Fern Grimble, 14, was described as a “brilliant all-rounder” by her proud teacher, Evelyn Witcombe, who said her pupil was thoroughly deserving of her place at Northern Ballet School’s Summer School.

She said: “Fern has been dancing with me for ten years. She started when she was four.

“She wanted to go to the summer school but missed the audition so I rang up the school and they said she would have to audition with the 16-year-olds.”

After impressing the judges, Fern took up her place yesterday at the school in Leeds.

“She knows this is a wonderful opportunity because she is hoping to go full time at the National Ballet – she’s definitely worthy of a place there,” said Mrs Witcombe.

Fern, who is from the Hull Road area, is already a seasoned dancer and has appeared on stage at York’s Grand Opera House in productions of Fame, Les Miserables, Billy Elliot and Oliver.
