A WOMAN who walked from the scene of a knife robbery with the man who carried out the crime has been asked to “search her conscience” and help police bring him to justice.

Police are combing CCTV footage and appealing for witnesses following the incident, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A 23-year-old local man was approached on Jubilee Terrace, in the Leeman Road area of York, as he made his way home at about 3.30am.

He was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over his iPhone 3GS and a small amount of cash.

The suspect, who made off down Balfour Street, is described as approximately 6ft 2ins tall, aged in his mid 20s, well built with short, dark hair.

He was wearing a blue Adidas tracksuit and left the scene in the company of a woman.

Detective Constable Vincent Morris, of York CID, said: “Thankfully the victim was uninjured in the incident, although he was clearly shocked by what happened.

“Robbery is a serious offence and all lines of inquiry will be followed to identify and arrest the man responsible.

“I would like to appeal to the woman who walked away from the scene of the robbery with the offender to search her conscience and come forward.

“It may be that she had no involvement in the incident. If that is the case she needs to tell me now.”

Police have been making house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage in the area as the investigation continues.

Anyone who has any information that could help the police is urged to phone DC Morris, on 0845 6060247, quoting reference number 12100125044.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be phoned anonymously on 0800 555 111.
