EAST Yorkshire racer Guy Smith posted his third consecutive non-finish in the latest round of the American Le Mans Series at Lime Rock – his Dyson Racing team’s “home” circuit.

The 35-year-old Beverley ace was sharing his Castrol Dyson Racing Lola Coupé Mazda with regular co-driver, Chris Dyson, but he did not get the opportunity to race the British-built Lola in the 165-minute race.

Smith qualified third fastest on the 30-car grid in wet conditions the previous day, setting his fastest lap in the dying moments of the 20-minute session.

Twenty-four hours later, Dyson incredibly snatched the lead going into the first corner at the start of the race but the glory was short-lived. The American crawled into the pits with seven minutes on the clock with reduced power.

Smith said: “It was a disappointing day for the Castrol Dyson Mazda team as we believed we had a car that was fast enough to win this race.

“Chris made a great start to jump into the lead but our bad luck continued on the seventh lap when the car suffered a mechanical problem.”
