IF City of York Council opened all the roads presently closed to vehicles, gridlock and congestion would be no more. No more tailback at Clifton Green lights.
Over the years, the council has closed more than 100 streets and roads to vehicles, creating gridlock on our major roads.
The council says it closed roads due to accidents and road safety. Yet 99 per cent of the roads closed in York had never seen an accident.
I have letters from YCC Traffic Technician, also letters from one of the traffic Engineer Highway Regulation, informing me that these accidents mostly occurred at street junctions.
So let’s understand one thing – gridlock is a ghost, a myth created by the council.
What right have the council to close your right of way?
