I READ with interest your article regarding the proposed closure of Selby Magistrates’ Court (The Press, July 21). This will have an adverse effect on York Magistrates’ Court and the exercising of justice in the York area.

Selby and York specialise in domestic violence cases and Selby is often used as an overflow court for York. The Selby closure will lead to a backlog of such cases. Selby has just undergone a £820,000 revamp providing disabled access and separate facilities for vulnerable witness. I understand York does not have such facilities.

I have written to Her Majesty’s Court Services to express my concern and ask for clarification on these points.
