SO First York is planning to put the bus prices up yet again in the city (The Press, July 16). Has the Sheriff of Nottingham recently taken over the running of the company, I wonder?
We could do with Robin Hood setting up a rival bus company to give people the choice of cheaper fares.
Fortunately, I do not have to rely on buses much as I cycle to work in the city centre from my home in Huntington. However, today I did get the bus and bought a day return ticket which cost me £3 (already too much).
I’m not sure how the fares are calculated, but I was intrigued as to how the woman in front of me at the theatre got a single ticket to Strensall for the same price as a single to Huntington.
No doubt First York feels it can charge whatever it likes as it has a monopoly on public transport in the city.
Here’s a novelty. Why doesn’t First York try reducing prices as an incentive for more people to use the bus, therefore cutting cars in the city.
