COACH drivers are being given the chance to use a new online guidance system to help them make their journeys around York.

City of York Council’s transport planning unit will give those in charge of the vehicles and the companies which operate them extra information on parking, drop-off and picking-up points and restricted roads in the city.

The web page also includes links to tourism and group travel sites and full details of how to apply for permits to enter restricted areas when coaches are carrying groups with special needs, as well as two downloadable maps.

“The aim of the new web page is to make it as easy as possible for tourists to visit York,” said the council’s acting transport planner Nigel Purssell.

“It’s really useful for coach operators when travelling to York and as a guide for tour operators to see where coaches can and can’t park.”

The web page can be found at york.gov.uk/transport/coaches and comments and feedback on it can be sent to transport.planning@york.gov.uk
