PATIENTS have paid tribute to a “marvellous” East Yorkshire osteopath who was killed in a motorcycle crash near his home.

John Trevor Nield, 47, died when the grey Triumph bike he was riding collided with a grey Toyota Prius on the B1246 near Pocklington on Sunday afternoon.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the tragedy to come forward.

Alison Cleary, the receptionist at Mr Nield’s practice in Market Place, Pocklington, said: “John was very highly thought of for his work and everybody wants to pay a tribute to him.

“He was a marvellous person who had the ability to make anybody, whoever they were, feel they were the most important person to him at the time.”

Mr Nield set up his osteopathic surgery in 1997, and lived in nearby Millington before moving to North Dalton five years ago.

Patient and fellow villager Chris Wade said: “John was a very good osteopath who treated a lot of people from this area, including myself.

“He always did the trick and was very popular. John was a very nice guy who fitted in well in the village and people have been shocked by the news of his sudden death.”

Mr Nield was travelling from Pocklington at the time of the crash at about 4pm on Sunday, with the Toyota heading in the opposite direction.

Humberside Police have urged the driver of a small white car he is believed to have overtaken just before the collision to contact them.

Anybody with information should contact the force on 0845 6060 222, quoting log number 511 of July 25.
