A NEW bus service has been set up to ferry teenagers in Selby direct to the snowy pistes for a spot of skiing.

Rather than the Alps, the bus will be taking young people to Xscape, near Castleford, but the service is a major success for Selby Youth Council.

Members on the council have been campaigning for such a service for some time and Arriva has now agreed to try the route during the summer holidays.

Alex Christadoulou of Selby Youth Council, said: “I had been asked by many people our age if there was any chance that we could get a bus service running from Selby to Xscape so I figured it was something that needed raising at the council.”

The bus service will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays from now until August 28 to allow youngsters in the district an easier way of getting to the entertainment on at Xscape which is based at Glasshoughton.

Colin Newbury, area manager for Arriva Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to show our support for young people in our local community and we really hope enough people use the service in order to turn a trial into a more permanent arrangement.”

In addition, Lazer Zone at Xscape is offering a two-for-one deal for those visitors who can produce an Arriva bus ticket valid for the same day.
