THE Great Yorkshire Show is well named, what a show indeed!
Something for everyone, the magnificent livestock from cattle, sheep, pigs and horses to goats, cavies, poultry and pigeons, fashion shows, and a wonderful array of cars and more farm machinery than in years – but no combine harvesters?
The WI food stand is unbeatable, their bacon butties, scalding hot tea and coffee is surpassed only by the lunch menus – generous sandwiches, “made on the spot” scones, delicious cakes and local cheese and a three-course meal if required, all reasonably priced.
The photographs in your paper were superb, although the photographers missed a golden opportunity in the flower tent. The NFU stand of vegetables resembling flowers and arrangements, the amazing carousel of aubergines, red, green and yellow peppers, locally grown in the East Riding of Yorkshire, paid tribute to the growers.
Radishes displayed as standard rose bushes – with all manner of soft fruits and carrots, cucumbers, potatoes spilling out of containers were a sight to behold, no wonder they win the premier awards year on year.
We were graced by the delightful Princess Royal, who obviously was enjoying the Show. We look forward to next year.
